Palau de la Música Catalana – Barcelona

Anyone that has visited Barcelona will know that the architecture is worth the visit alone with Gaudi being a huge influence. But it is the work of Domènech i Montaner that we will be looking at today and in particular his design of the Palau de la Música Catalana.

The Palau de la Música Catalana is an incredible music hall in Barcelona that won the architect the award in 1909 for best building from the previous year, and you can see why. Built in the Catalan modernista style from 1905 to 1908 the concert hall has played host to countless performances.

The building is found in old Barcelona or Casc Antic and underwent restoration and expansion between 1982 to 1989 and 2006 to 2008 and is popular with tourists who are always keen to photograph what they can.

Tourists in Barcelona are really in for a treat even beyond the incredible architecture with the city boasting a wonderful cosmopolitan feel without sacrificing any of its Catalan charm.
